Some genetic conditions and inherited gene mutations can increase the risk of developing cancer in children. The most common type of kidney cancer in adults is Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC), accounting for about 90% of cases. There are several subtypes of RCC, including clear cell carcinoma, papillary carcinoma, chromophobe carcinoma, and others. Wilms tumor is a type of kidney cancer that primarily affects children.

These include smoking, obesity, high blood pressure, exposure to certain chemicals or substances (such as asbestos, cadmium, or organic solvents), a family history of kidney cancer, and certain genetic conditions (such as von Hippel-Lindau disease or hereditary papillary renal cell carcinoma).
